Abstract

Summary. The purpose of the article is to actualize the religious and philosophical understanding of humanness as a measure of openness of the human soul to God. In our opinion, the topic chosen is relevant and this problem is truly Christian. Philosophical and anthropological focus and Christian dogmatic theology became the methodological foundations of the study. Besides, phenomenological and personalistic research methods were used to solve the set tasks. Scientific novelty. The fundamental feature of humanness is its religious nature – a real meeting of man with God in a new, personal and human cross-point. Such an event renews a person, makes him whole and creative, which presupposes mercy and love for others above all. Anything that is beyond this measure cannot be called human, worthy of Man. We are convinced that the meaning of religious life is decisively aimed at restoring the lost integrity of feelings, will, mind and heart. Conclusions. The most complete understanding of humanness as a measure of the human soul open to God is presented in Christian anthropology. The experience of meeting oneself through communion with God is inevitably reflected in the depth of communication with Others. Unfortunately, culture as a substance of humanness does not save some peoples from moral degradation and decline, and the situation of “wandering”, i.e. being in a state well below the level of humanness or inhumanness in general is the historical “fate” of mankind.
