Abstract

Abstract. The article attempts to reproduce a holistic view of J. Locke՚s anthropology through revealing the specific nature of his practical and creative activity as a philosopher. It aims to prove that the conceptual integrity of human knowledge is achieved by J. Locke due to the simultaneous understanding of man in two planes, namely, «health – illness» and «man – the world». This gave the thinker an opportunity to actualize the medical and philosophical discourses in the imple-mentation of the purposeful philosophical and scientific tasks as the main ones and to identify their limitations in comprehension of the spiritual aspects of human life and the man՚s eternal aspirations for happiness. J. Locke brought up to date the importance of the formula of happiness in human life, but for him it was far from abstract. He drew it from the realities of human life, both external and internal. And it was his own practical and scientific-theoretical, philosophical creative ac-tivity that contributed to the creation of socio-political, cultural con-ditions of formation and development of a bodily and spiritually heal-thy person. Active political, medical and pedagogical activities served as an important practical basis for theoretical conclusions regarding sen-sory experience as a source of reliably true knowledge, as well as the important role of intellect in cognition and life՚s activity of a person whose light, true or false, directs all his active forces (J. Locke). J. Locke՚s philosophical mind manifests itself as a presence not only in the medical and pedagogical varieties of anthropological ref-lection, but also in the creation of a holistic concept of anthropocen-trism. The core of this concept is the development of a healthy indivi-dual personality. And the crown is the main provisions of Christian anthropology. Evidence of this is his last religious works, which do not only reveal J. Locke՚s attachment to the Christian faith, but also the experience of the main events that contributed to its emergence and affirmation as real. These views do not only contribute to the spiritual fulfillment of the earthly aspirations of people for happiness, which can be attained in its fullness by returning to Eden, but com-plete the integrity of his anthropological quest.
